Sir Alex Ferguson has not ruled out the prospect of Gary Neville forcing his way into Fabio Capello's England World Cup squad.
Neville has enjoyed an excellent season, confounding the critics who claimed that, after two years almost totally wrecked by injury, his days at the top level were numbered.
Neville, 35, is yet to decide whether to join fellow stalwarts Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in committing himself to another season at Manchester United. Ferguson, though, has said he is "pretty sure Gary will be here next year".
And the United boss has also raised the possibility of Capello squeezing him into his 23-man squad for South Africa.
"I wouldn't be surprised if he went to South Africa," he said. "It is not my job to say he should go, it is difficult enough for an international manager, but I wouldn't be surprised if Fabio chose him."
Although he was initially sidelined by a broken ankle sustained in a tackle with Gary Speed in March 2007, it was a series of muscular problems which kept Neville out for an entire year.
He ended up making just a single nine-minute substitute appearance in a Champions League encounter with Roma in the 2007/08 season, and only chalked up 27 last term.
Even Ferguson doubted whether Neville would recover but the full-back has shown admirable fortitude and more than held his own against Manchester City flyer Craig Bellamyat Eastlands last week.
"Gary is unbelievable," Ferguson added. "He is an amazing man. When you are in your 30s and been out of the game for a year and a half it is impossible for most players to come back to the level he is at now.
"He used his experience to the full last Saturday. Craig Bellamy is a handful but Gary will have studied every little bit of him. That is what he does and he had him under control."
Ferguson did not expect to be calling on Neville quite as much as he has.
At one stage last season the United boss claimed the defender's body would not stand up to more than one game a week, but he has been a regular over the last couple of months.
"It has surprised me how many games Gary has played recently," he said. "After we brought him back against Everton away we looked after every game at what his recovery should be.
"We looked at what he was like and how he felt and whether we should bring Rafael back in, but every time he was up for it. He trained every day and never missed a session so you go with the flow."

Sir Alex Ferguson has said he has no intention of selling goalkeeper Ben Foster this summer.
Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton said this week that he felt Foster should leave Manchester United to get his career back on track, while reports have linked him with Birmingham and Tottenham.
However, although he is currently third-choice at Old Trafford, Ferguson has revealed he is eager to retain the player going into next season.
"Ben has been unfortunate," he said. "He made some mistakes earlier this season and Tomasz Kuszczak got in. His form has been great. Every time he played he was outstanding.
"What do I do? Pick Ben because he is English or go with form? But Ben has fantastic talent and I am sure he will be tremendous next year.
"The boy has just signed a new contract and has never said anything to me, so as far as I am concerned, he will be here."
It has also emerged that Ferguson rejected a January offer from Bologna for young Italian striker Federico Macheda.
Macheda's agent, Giovanni Bia, said in the Manchester Evening News: "There was an interest from Bologna in January but United considered him absolutely unsellable.
"I think it will be the same in the next summer. There will be no possibility of moving because the club will hold him tight."
Fabiano would welcome United switch ...
Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano has suggested he would be keen to seal a move to Manchester United.
Fabiano, 29, is out of contract at the end of next season and, with United understood to be in the market for a new striker in the summer, it appears he would welcome a switch to Old Trafford.
"If you are asking me what team I most admire it is Manchester United," he is quoted as saying in the Daily Express. "If you play under Sir Alex Ferguson then you are probably going to win a title or another major trophy."
Fabiano, a Brazil international, has won two UEFA Cups and a Copa del Rey with Sevilla and is thought to be valued at around £15 million.

Reports this week suggested Ferguson was willing to step down at the end of the current campaign to allow Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho to take charge, but he has now insisted the rumours are without foundation.
"It is rubbish," he said. "There is no truth in it. I have no intention of retiring and if I did the people I would tell are (chief executive) David Gill and the Glazer family.
"As I have said time and time again, the only thing that determines my staying here is my health and, unfortunately for you lot, I'm in rude health, so you'll be left to suffer me for many more years. You'll be gone before I'm gone, don't you worry!"
Other reports had suggested Everton manager David Moyes had been lined up to replace Ferguson, but he too rejected the suggestions.
"As far as I'm concerned, this is a load of nonsense," Moyes said. "What I will say is I think it will be a terrible day when Sir Alex does finish."
Ferguson is now focused on beating Tottenham on Saturday and, following results last weekend, he is feeling positive about United's chances.
"There's been a lift around the club this week, no doubt," he said. "There's always been a sense of atmosphere around the place, but in training this week it's been noticeable, the lift. Training has been very competitive.

Fans would give up food, jobs,home,love for World Cup glory?
What would you sacrifice to see your country win soccer's World Cup? Food for a week, according to a survey that also found fans willing to lose a limb for their team's glory.
Fifty-one percent of respondents to the tongue-in-cheek survey of 20,000 people, who live in North America but hail from countries with teams in the June 11-July 11 World Cup, said they would starve themselves for a week if that would bring victory to their national squad.
More than 40 percent offered to give up dating for a year, while seven percent said they would gladly give up their job to see their country win the title.
A further four percent were willing to give away a body part.
The survey was conducted by U.S.-based international calling firm VIP Communications Inc (www.JoinVIP.com) ahead of the South African extravaganza featuring 32 nations.
It found that a majority of English respondents -- 93 percent -- would give up food for a week to see Englandwin, while some 70 percent of Italians would give up their job for an Italian victory.
Americans were most willing to sacrifice their homes, while South Koreans were most ready to sacrifice their love life.
And the people least willing to make a sacrifice?
The survey found that only 3 percent of Slovakians would give up anything to improve their country's chances of victory.

India Has More Cell Phones Than Toilets !!!
In the global rush toward modernization, some luxuries are outpacing the necessities.
According to a new study released by the United Nations University, more people in India now own cell phones than have access to proper sanitation, including the use of a toilet.
In 2008, just 366 million of India's 1.2 billion people had access to a toilet, the report said, while 563.73 million were subscribers to a cell phone plan.
"It is a tragic irony to think that in India, a country now wealthy enough that roughly half of the people own phones, about half cannot afford the basic necessity and dignity of a toilet," Zafar Adeel, director of United Nations University, said in a statement.
The study found that from 2000 to 2001, the number of people with cell phone plans in India was just 0.35 per 100 residents. Today, 45 out of 100 Indians now subscribe to plans.
At a meeting at the U.N. in 2000, global leaders pledged to improve access to sanitation around the world by 50 percent by the year 2015. While the U.N. report put an estimated cost of building a toilet at $300, including labor, it said that $358 billion would be needed to meet the global goals set forth in 2000.
Access to proper sanitation is a key component to public health because a lack of toilets results in the pollution of freshwater sources, the study noted. According to a 2008 report from the World Health Organization, 10 percent of all world illnesses is attributable to problems related to finding clean water.
The new study argued that the cost of inaction far outweighed the price tag of upgrading sanitation.
"The world can expect, however, a return of between $3 and $34 for every dollar spent on sanitation, realized through reduced poverty and health costs and higher productivity," Adeel said.

As in F1 ......Ferari's didnt do well in the Chinese Grand Prix .....even thou alonso lead in the beginning ....but with an eventful race due to rain ....it didnt really work his way ......The ferari's finished 4th n 9th with button n hamilton finishin the race on the front to give Mc Laren their 1st one two since 2007 ........
